Pippa Wyndham is a top cellist―she’d never settle for anything less. Determined to get into the nation’s most prestigious music college, nothing’s going to stand in her way . . . Until her senior year of high school when a new guy from a fancy New York conservatory transfers to her school.
Declan Brogan’s cocky, and he knows how amazing he is at the cello. He has every intention of knocking Pippa out of first chair and showing her who really belongs on top. Forced together when assigned a duet, their personal competition and mutual dislike transform into a teasing friendship.
Torn between her childhood crush and the boy who threatens her dreams, Pippa finds herself at risk of losing her best friend, her future, and the boy who makes her heart melt. Struggling to make things right, Pippa discovers that sometimes the thing you want the most doesn’t always end up being the thing you need.
I honestly don’t know how I feel about this book or if I would recommend it to anyone or not. And I apologize beforehand for the incoherent mess that my review is going to be 😅
So lets start from the beginning, shall we? I picked it for the synopsis and cover. Both really appealed to me. A few chapters in, I was thinking it will surely be 4.5 stars read. Halfway through my rating dropped to 4. By the end i was really conflicted. Yes I enjoyed it a lot, but i was no longer sure what the point of it was. Now about 2 weeks later, i think I’ll go with 3 stars.
I think we all agree that love triangles can be a headache if not handled properly by the author. Well that was exactly what this book was. A badly handled story of love triangles. That’s it. That’s the entire summary right there. Don’t even get me started on how oblivious the main character was. Things could be happening right in front of her eyes and she won’t know. And music wasn’t the main ‘thing’ of the story. Her cello was only there to drive her closer to this guy.
Now why did i like it if it was as bad as i say, you ask. Well there were some redeeming qualities. Like really nice parents and family dynamics. I mean how often do you come across nice parents in ya? Then there was this totally swoon worthy love interest, Declan. And also the witty and sharp tongue of our main character Pippa. I was totally digging her sharp retorts.
So yeah the book was a mess at times but i did enjoy it. And if you’re looking for a light and fluffy contemporary, you might enjoy it too . But, just don’t go into it expecting much if you decide to give it a go (better still invest your time in something else 😅)
Until next time. Happy Reading! 🙂
